Farm Animal health

Infectious disease screening

We offer a comprehensive infection disease screening service – usually through taking blood samples for antibodies. Working in partnership with external laboratory companies, we are able to screen for several diseases including:

  • Maedi Visna (MV)
  • Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD)
  • Johnes
  • Caseous lymphadenitis (CLA)
  • Cushings
  • Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Neospora

Herd and Flock Health Plans

Herd health planning is used to continuously improve animal health and welfare on your farm. We provide a proactive approach including help with nutrition, parasite control and vaccinations, managing lameness and mastitis, infectious disease testing and eradication and routine preventative health procedures.

An annual review of your herd or flock should be completed with your vet. The herd health plan also helps farmers demonstrate that their husbandry and welfare meet nationally agreed levels of best practice for Red Tractor.

Mastitis control

Mastitis in dairy cows can be very frustrating and have a big impact on cow welfare as well as productivity and profitability. We can carry out an in depth investigation to tailor a Mastitis Control Plan that targets adjustments within your system to reducing mastitis incidence on your farm.

We also offer rapid in-house mastitis testing to gather more information to help build up a picture of the farm specific problem to improve treatment and prevention techniques. Results are emailed to you within 24 hours.

Your milking machine itself can be part of a mastitis problem if not functioning properly and we are pleased to announce that we can also now offer dynamic milking machine testing to investigate this.

TB Testing

We provide compulsory TB testing services and aim to perform your tests competently and professionally. Private testing is also available. We are also happy to provide other veterinary services during the TB test, such as blood sampling, pregnancy diagnosis or castration and dehorning. Please book in with the office in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.
